Cutdle: Cut Shapes in Half

One cut. How close to half can you get? Play the daily 50/50 challenge or try five-round Unlimited sets with scores and target ratios.

What is Cutdle?

Cutdle is a free 50/50 cutting game from The Dles. Draw one straight line through an irregular shape and see how accurately you can divide its area. Daily asks for two equal halves. Unlimited lets you choose a five-round Equal Split set or a Target Ratio set with portions such as 25:75, 30:70 and 40:60.

The collection includes 100 original shapes: wonky stars, animals, everyday silhouettes and curved abstract shapes. A long thin arm can look substantial while holding very little area. Your challenge is to judge the whole shape, not simply find its middle.

How to Play Cutdle

01 / LOOK

Read the target

Equal Split asks for 50:50. In Target Ratio, the goal is shown above the shape before every cut. A 30:70 target means one piece should contain 30% of the total area; either side can be the smaller piece.

02 / CUT

Draw one straight line

Press, drag across the shape, then release. Your line extends through the whole board, so it does not need to start or finish outside the outline. A tap or a line that misses the shape does not use your attempt.

03 / REVEAL

Compare the two areas

The pieces separate and reveal their actual area ratio. Tap the ratio for more precision. A cut within two percentage points of the requested smaller piece counts as a target hit.

Play with a mouse or touch. Select Use keyboard to adjust the line's angle and position, then choose Cut here. There is no time limit.

Daily Challenge and Five-Round Unlimited

Daily: everyone sees the same shape for the UTC date. You get one valid cut, and that result is final, including after a refresh. The goal is 50:50; 48:52 or closer counts as a win. The countdown shows the time until the next shape at 00:00 UTC.

Unlimited: choose Equal Split or Target Ratio, then start a set of five different shapes. Each shape allows one valid cut. Review the result before moving to the next round; after the fifth, open your scorecard. You can play another set whenever you like.

When browser storage is available, an unfinished Unlimited set can be resumed from its entrance. Equal Split and Target Ratio have separate completed-set counts, average scores and personal bests. Daily results and streaks stay separate from both.

How Cutdle Scoring Works

Each Unlimited round is worth up to 100 points, for a maximum of 500 per set. Start at 100 and subtract five points for each percentage point of error. The result is rounded to a whole point and cannot fall below zero. Scoring uses the full area calculation, so a displayed ratio rounded to one decimal place may hide a small difference.

For example, a 50:50 target cut at 48:52 misses by two percentage points and earns 90 points. For a 30:70 target, 32:68 also earns 90 points. Cutting 50:50 when the target is 30:70 misses by 20 percentage points and earns zero. Reversing the sides makes no difference: 70:30 is just as accurate as 30:70.

Daily uses its own win result based on the 48:52 tolerance; it does not contribute to your five-round score or Unlimited personal best.

Tips for Cutting Shapes into Equal Parts

Equal widths do not guarantee equal areas. Look for the broadest part of the shape first, then consider how much the narrow arms or tips add. An off-centre cut may be the fairest split.

Mentally group the shape into a few simpler pieces. For a 25:75 target, picture a quarter of the total area rather than a quarter of its width. In Target Ratio, check the large target before cutting: a beautifully even half is still the wrong portion when the goal is 30:70.

Share Your Five-Cut Score

A completed Unlimited set gets a total score, a playful title and a breakdown of all five rounds. Use Share score to copy a text result or create an image with your five cuts, individual scores and personal best for that mode. The image includes the shapes and your cuts.

Daily has its own sharing option. Its text result shows your ratio without revealing the shape; its image includes the shape and your cut. Saved progress and personal records belong to this browser and do not sync across devices.

Cutdle Questions

Is Cutdle the same as Cutle?

No. Cutdle is an independent game by The Dles. Alongside a daily 50/50 shape challenge, it offers five-round Unlimited sets in Equal Split or Target Ratio mode. Each Unlimited set has five different shapes, one cut per shape and a score out of 500, with text and image sharing.

Can I retry today's Daily shape?

No. Daily allows one valid cut for the UTC date. Refreshing restores that result. Choose Unlimited for more five-round sets.

Is every round a 50:50 split?

Daily and Unlimited Equal Split use 50:50. Unlimited Target Ratio uses 25:75, 30:70 and 40:60, with the target shown before each cut. Either side may be the smaller piece.

Do I need to cut the shape into exactly two connected pieces?

The result measures all shape area on each side of your straight line. A concave outline may leave several separate fragments; fragments on the same side count together.

Is Cutdle free, and can I play on my phone?

Yes. Cutdle runs in your browser on a phone or computer, with no account or download required. JavaScript must be enabled. The sound button can mute effects, and the game respects your device's reduced-motion setting.

Where are my scores saved?

Daily progress, your current Unlimited set and personal records are stored in this browser when local storage is available. Clearing site data removes them. If storage is unavailable, progress lasts only for the current visit.
