YOUR FIELD GUIDE

Make your own way.

Read each clue, then click a country on the map or use country search. Confirm one answer. Every clue has several correct countries. Each country carries a preset discovery rating, so a less familiar answer earns more exploration points.

Five questions make one expedition. Daily refreshes at midnight UTC; Unlimited uses the finite bank without repeating a question until its deck cycles. Timed and Unhurried results are labelled separately.

This is The Dles’ independent edition. Ratings are preset discovery scores attached to each country, not live player percentages. Country source and licence files are linked below the game.

Farflung Geography Game: Daily & Unlimited

Five clues. An open map. Find countries that fit and discover a less obvious way to score.

A LITTLE FURTHER FROM FAMILIAR

What is Farflung?

Farflung is a free daily geography game: read a clue, then find a country that fits it on an open world map. A familiar answer can get you started; a less obvious one might take you further. Play the daily expedition or keep exploring in Unlimited. No account is needed, and your progress stays in this browser. This is The Dles’ independent edition, with its own questions and discovery ratings.

How to play Farflung

  1. Read the clue. It may describe a region, border, capital, language, currency, area or country name.
  2. Find the country on the map — zoom in for the small ones — or type its name into country search.
  3. Choose Confirm country to lock your answer. Each clue allows one attempt; in Timed mode the clock locks it for you.
  4. Explore the revealed answers, then move on. Five clues make one expedition, and the rules are the same in Daily and Unlimited.

Daily and Unlimited

Daily gives everyone the same five clues, with a new expedition at midnight UTC. Your attempt is saved in this browser, so you can return to an unfinished one.

Unlimited lets you start another expedition whenever you like. Questions are drawn from a finite bank and repeat after the deck cycles. Choose Timed for 60 seconds per clue, or Unhurried to explore without a clock; the two are labelled separately in your results.

How scoring works

Every country carries its own discovery rating, so a correct answer earns 20 to 100 exploration points — even a common country is worth at least 20. A wrong answer, giving up a clue or a timeout earns zero. The five clues are worth up to 500 points in total, although not every clue contains a top-tier answer.

Ratings are preset editorial estimates attached to each country. They are not live statistics about what other players choose, and the same country is always worth the same score.

Farflung FAQ

Is Farflung free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free to play in a browser. There is no account, download or sign-up: your progress and results are stored in this browser only.

When does the daily expedition reset?

A new Daily expedition opens at 00:00 UTC, and everyone gets the same five clues for that date. If you leave partway through, you can return to the same expedition in this browser.

What is the difference between Timed and Unhurried?

Timed gives you 60 seconds per clue and locks the clue when the clock runs out. Unhurried has no clock. Both use the same questions and the same ratings, and the results are labelled separately.

Is there a Farflung infinite mode?

Our Unlimited mode has no daily play limit. Its question bank is finite, so it offers repeatable expeditions rather than an endless supply of unique clues.

Can friends play the same questions?

Yes. Finish an expedition and choose Challenge a friend. The link carries the five clues, timer setting and shared scores. Scores are supplied by the sender, not a verified global ranking.

Why can’t I select every territory?

This edition uses 195 country records: the 193 UN member states plus Palestine and Vatican City. Other map areas may be shown without being selectable.
