Weather Darts: Daily Weather Guessing Game

Five city guesses. One target temperature. Use your weather knowledge to hit exactly zero.

Weather Darts: reach zero on the colorful temperature target

What is Weather Darts?

Weather Darts is a free daily weather guessing game that mixes geography with darts-style scoring. Instead of throwing darts, you choose cities around the world. Each city's current temperature is subtracted from the target, and your goal is to bring the remaining number to exactly zero.

You have up to five guesses. A hot city can take a big chunk off the target; a cooler city may help you finish. Go below zero and you bust, ending the game. Select Play Weather Darts above to load the original game.

How to Play Weather Darts

01

Check the target

Read the target temperature. Choose Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F) before your first guess; you cannot switch units once the game has started.

02

Choose a city

Search for a city and select it. Its current temperature is deducted from the remaining target. Think about the city's local time, season and elevation.

03

Land on zero

Use your remaining guesses to close the gap. Reach exactly zero to win, and avoid choosing a temperature that takes the target below zero.

For example, if the target is 40°C and your first city is 25°C, you have 15°C left. You now need your next city, or combination of cities, to subtract that remaining 15°C.

Wins, Busts and Medals

A perfect result leaves exactly zero. You can make up to five guesses, but a negative remaining target ends the attempt immediately. The result screen shows the target, your remaining score and an award. A bust result can come with a cookie instead of a medal.

The number to watch is the remaining target, rather than the temperature of your last city alone. Plan each guess around what is still needed.

Going below zero is a bust. This attempt overshot the 94°C target by 6°C.

Tips for Choosing Your Next City

Think beyond the country. A city's temperature depends on the time of day and elevation as well as its latitude. A high-altitude city near the equator may be cooler than you expect.

Keep the seasons in mind. The Northern and Southern Hemispheres have opposite seasons. When one part of the world is warming up, another may offer the cooler temperature you need.

Leave room for a finish. A large deduction can help early on, but your last few degrees call for a careful choice. Below-freezing temperatures need extra thought: subtracting a negative number increases the remaining target.

Weather Darts FAQ

Does Weather Darts use current temperatures?

Yes. Guesses use current city temperatures, rather than annual averages or a city's all-time record. Local time and changing weather can affect the result.

How many guesses do I get?

You get up to five city guesses. Reaching zero wins; going below zero ends the attempt early.

Can I play in Celsius or Fahrenheit?

Yes. Use the °C / °F switch before making your first guess. The original game locks the unit choice once you begin.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Search for cities using your phone's keyboard. The toolbar above the player includes expanded view and fullscreen controls for a larger playing area.
