What Is Weaver?
Weaver is a word game where you turn one four-letter word into another. Change one letter at a time, keep the other three in place, and make a real word at every step. The chain you build is called a word ladder.
You can see both ends from the start. The challenge is finding the words between them, then finding a shorter way through. Play a free daily puzzle, practise in Unlimited, or take a route through a checkpoint word. There is no timer and no account to create.
How to Play Weaver
Change one letter
Compare the start word with the goal. Enter a new four-letter word that changes exactly one position. You cannot add, remove or rearrange letters.
Submit a real word
Use your keyboard or the on-screen keys, then press Enter or Submit. Each new word must be in the game's word list. An invalid entry does not add a move.
Reach the goal in fewer moves
Keep building until you enter the goal word itself. Each accepted word counts as one move, including the goal; the start word is free. Undo a step if you want to try a different path.
A Word Ladder Example
Here is one way to turn COLD into WARM in four moves:
- COLD
- CORD
- CARD
- WARD
- WARM
Every step changes just one letter. The middle words do not need to share a meaning with COLD or WARM. Another valid route can work just as well.
Daily Weaver and Unlimited
The daily word ladder
Everyone gets the same puzzle for the UTC date. Your progress stays in this browser, and the result screen counts down to the next daily challenge at 00:00 UTC.
Weaver Unlimited
Want another ladder? Switch to Unlimited and choose Easy, Normal or Hard. Finish a puzzle, then select New puzzle to play again. There is no daily play limit, though word pairs can repeat.
The checkpoint challenge
Switch from Classic to Checkpoint to add a word you must visit before finishing. You need to connect the start to that middle word, then reach the goal. Each rules mode saves its own progress.
Tips for a Shorter Word Ladder
Look one move ahead
Before submitting a word, think of a possible next step. A familiar word with several neighbours may be more useful than a word that matches more goal letters but leaves you stuck.
Let green letters change
Green means a letter matches the goal in that position. It does not lock the letter. Some ladders need a sideways step, so changing a green letter can lead to a shorter route.
Think from both ends
Ask which words could lead into the goal as well as which words you can make from your current row. Looking for a meeting point can make the gap easier to bridge.
Weaver FAQ
Is there only one Weaver solution?
No. Any valid route to the goal works; in Checkpoint mode it must also visit the middle word. After finishing, compare your route with one shortest solution for this game's word list.
How do hints work?
You have two hints per puzzle. The first highlights which letter to change in a suggested next step. A second reveals the replacement letter. You still type and submit the word. Undoing or restarting does not give spent hints back.
Why is my word not accepted?
It must have four letters, change exactly one position, and appear in the selected word list. Listed plurals, verb forms and British or American spellings can count. Proper names, abbreviations, hyphens and apostrophes do not qualify.
Can I save and share my result?
Progress is saved in this browser. Clearing site data or switching devices starts fresh. After solving, use Copy result to share your endpoints, move count and hints used; the words in the middle stay hidden.
